I moved to these here parts in Somerset a good few years ago, and I can confirm that cider is part of the 'national' identity and the Wurzel Tax is not going down well here.
This is what we have come to expect from the urban Labour Party partisan,petty, small minded assaults on those that they know will never support them. Coupled with 'Health' campaigners largely funded by this Government they seem set to destroy anything that they do not approve of.
The South West is mobilising the ultimate deterrent The Wurzels, laugh ye not, if you have ever been to one of their outdoor concerts, Alistair Darling is in deep trouble.
In the 1760's they were hanging effigies of Scotsman Lord Bute in Bristol when he first put Tax on Cider and Perry.

Darling said today that there would be more cuts than Thatcher made. He shouldn't be thinking of Thatcher's cuts, he should be drinking Thatcher's Old Rascal. That'd put hairs ... well, somewhere, but I'm not sure I want to think too much about that.
I would mention Old Rosie but she'm from Herefordshire so she'm foreign.
